Abstract
Two opposing principles clash when physicians consider management issues for patients with type 2 diabetes: primum succurere , first hasten to help; and primum non nocere , first do no harm. Clinicians are increasingly aware of different levels of care and prevention and are generally familiar with the concepts of primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention.
