ARC East Midlands researchers share stories for the NIHR campaign

Colleagues from ARC East Midlands have spoken of the reasons behind their moves into research to support the NIHR Shape the Future campaign.

They have shared their stories to encourage researchers to learn more about research, explore research careers and how to add research to their practice, learning and development. 

Telling their stories

• Working mum Frankie shares her story in bid to inspire others - Read Frankie’s journey in research and the NHS and how she is thriving in her career after returning from maternity leave. (November 2023)
• Paving the way for more OTs to do research - Cate Bennett was the first social care Occupational Therapist in her Local Authority to study at postgraduate level and is now passionate about making sure people have access to learning. (October 2022)
• Venture into the unknown pays off for determined nurse - Rachael Carroll opted for a career in academic research after working in the mental health sector for 26 years. (October 2022)
• Developing stroke service leads to interest in research - Almost 10 years ago Stroke Physiotherapist Lal Russell was faced with the challenge of developing rehabilitation services for severely disabled stroke survivors. (October 2022)
• Everything happens for a reason - By his own admission, Sam Malins stumbled into research but after seeing its benefits on clinical practice first-hand, the Clinical Psychologist is thriving as a clinical academic. (October 2022)
