Living Labs for Care (LiLaC): Empowering care homes and domiciliary care through research

What is LiLaC (Living Labs for Care)?

Living Labs for Care has been created to support care home and domiciliary care led research, improvement projects and service evaluations in the East Midlands. It is part of a wider national incentive to build research capacity in social care, share knowledge and learning opportunities within care homes and domiciliary care sector. Currently we are working closely with two care homes based in Nottingham and aim to expand this project in care homes and home care providers in Derby and Leicester.

Why is LiLaC needed?

Care homes and domiciliary care staff do amazing work every day. Providing care to thousands of older people who need assistance with daily activities, personal care and assistance. Older people receiving social care are an underserved community and whilst NIHR efforts have expanded care home research, this sector lags behind acute care in terms of research investment and engagement. Living Labs for Care (LiLAC) aims to help bridge this gap by creating research hubs in care homes and domiciliary care, identifying learning needs of care practitioners and facilitating training and education for our social care colleagues.
