THIS Institute PhD Programme hosted by The University of Nottingham, in collaboration with Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and NIHR ARC East Midlands for Allied Health Professionals

We are offering a PhD studentship funded by THIS Institute and registered in the School of Medicine, University of Nottingham. This prestigious opportunity is being offered to registered Allied Health Professionals (AHP), Midwives or Nurses employed by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and will be supported by the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration East Midlands.

Project Title: The National Audit Programme: An improvement tool for community stroke care?

Research Question: What is the perceived importance of the National Sentinel Stroke Audit Programme and how can analysis and feedback be optimised to inform community based stroke service delivery and improvement?

Funding

Funds are available up to (and including) AfC Band 7 on a 3 year secondment (full time), reflecting the desire to attract high calibre applicants and offer a unique opportunity to develop a research career.

Research costs are available to cover data collection expenses, conference attendance and Open Access fees. PhD tuition fees are included.

Applying for the PhD

Applicants should be:

  • Employed by a Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust as a non-medical clinical professional (AHP, Midwife or Nurse);
  • Have a 2.1 or higher Honours degree in a relevant discipline, a good knowledge of healthcare, experience in stroke care and an interest in applied, healthcare improvement research;  
  • Home/EU candidates only due to funding restrictions;
  • Available from April 2021 for three years (full time study) 

Applicants are especially welcomed to apply if they already have: 

  • A Clinical MSc / MA in research 
  • Research experience
  • Experience of provision or commissioning of stroke rehabilitation
  • A track record of working autonomously

  • Evidence of English Language proficiency (IELTS 6.5 overall, with no less than 6.0 in any element, or equivalent) if your first language is not English;
