We would like to congratulate Elpida Vounzoulaki for submitting her PhD, funded by the NIHR ARC East Midlands.

Elpida’s PhD investigated the impact of progression to type 2 diabetes in women with previous gestational diabetes, looking at screening attendance, risk of long-term conditions and the cost-effectiveness of an intervention aimed at preventing type 2 diabetes.

Based at the University of Leicester, she was part of our Multiple Long-term Conditions theme.

Speaking about her achievements, Elpida said: “It was a great experience to do my PhD at the Diabetes Research Centre, University of Leicester. I am extremely grateful for all the support I have received from my supervisors – Dr Clare Gillies, Professor Kamlesh Khunti and Professor Bee Tan – which has allowed me to pursue a broad range of opportunities, learn, and grow both personally and professionally, as well as the support received from NIHR ARC East Midlands who funded my research over the last few years. I would also like to thank my family and friends for being part of this journey, supporting and inspiring me’’.
