About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to work within the prestigious NIHR funded Global Health Research Centre for Multiple Long-Term Conditions (MLTCs). The £9.7M Global Health Research Centre is co-led by the University of Leicester and the Public Health Foundation of India, with multiple collaborating institutions across the UK, India and Nepal. The two primary aims of the Centre are to:

  1. Improve care for people living with MLTCs in India and Nepal by designing and delivering an innovative intervention that uses simple technologies and promotes patient equity to improve care
  2. Strengthen national health research systems by building capacity in the workforce and creating networks of both MLTC researchers and key stakeholders.

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of research and capacity building activities within the Global Health Research Centre. Key capacity strengthening activities will include supporting the Centre Manager to facilitate international exchanges between the participating nations, such as students and staff from India and Nepal attending the University of Leicester to complete studentships and short-term placements. Key research activities will involve supporting the delivery of the formative research and subsequent trial within the Centre’s diverse research portfolio.

You will also track the progress of the Centre’s research and capacity strengthening activities to ensure timelines are met and identify areas of improvement. There will also be potential opportunities to travel to both India and Nepal to further the Centre’s activities and strengthen existing collaborations.

As a Research Assistant working within the Global Health Research Centre, you will work closely with the Centre Manager to support the Centre’s activities, as well as Professors Khunti (Centre co-lead, University of Leicester) and Prabhakaran (Centre co-lead, Public Health Foundation of India) and other members of the collaborating institutions in the UK, India and Nepal.

You will be based at the Leicester General Hospital and will work closely with University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust senior management; University of Leicester Research Enterprise Division; and NHS clinical and academic staff across UK and international institutions.

About you

We are looking for someone experienced in supporting research projects within either a University or healthcare environment. You will have effective planning and organisational skills, able to support a large team working on several concurrent work programmes, and prioritise activities in order to meet key Centre timelines as well as being highly organised, supporting the Centre Manager to ensure that the Centre meets its objectives and that all reporting requirements are met.
