Following investment into dementia research by the NIHR and the Alzheimer’s Society, NIHR Applied Research Collaboration East Midlands (ARC EM) are recruiting an experienced Senior Research Fellow who will join our Mental Health and Wellbeing theme. This role joins others in building capacity in dementia-related applied health and care research within the existing portfolio of ARC activity.

This research programme addresses the needs of people with dementia in under-served groups: 

1. Needs of people with young onset dementia;
2. Access to technology and needs of people with dementia from underserved groups (e.g. frail, 85+, poor, rural, understudied communities, ethnic minorities).

The Senior Research Fellow will be responsible for leading the planning, coordinating and undertaking of research projects using a range of methodological approaches. The role holder will develop, pursue and sustain the research plan in dementia care, developing and submitting funding bids, and will help to spearhead programme networking across the region, for demonstrable research impact. They will also have a senior-level responsibility for research direction, mentorship, and capacity-building activities within the programmatic area of work.

This is a 1-year fixed-term role, with the potential of extension subject to funding approval. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours); however, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 30 hours per week). Arrangements for job share would be considered.

This exciting opportunity will give the successful applicant the opportunity to use initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop research methods and further extend their research portfolio and leadership skills.

Eligibility

You will have a PhD in a relevant discipline, and significant post-doctoral experience in a relevant field of applied health and care research. You will have a successful track record of publishing, dissemination, research leadership and income generation.

We are seeking applications from a wide range of professional backgrounds, settings and disciplines, including but not limited to health and care (health professional and social care practitioners), social sciences and data sciences. The Fellowships are open to individuals already engaged in applied dementia care research and those from other backgrounds wishing to move into this area of research.
