NIHR CLAHRC East Midlands-funded PhD studentship to study at the Centre for Dementia, Institute of Mental Health, Nottingham

We are looking for an enthusiastic PhD student who will carry out research exploring how an app may improve independence for people with dementia

People with dementia lose much more than just their memory and daily living skills. They can also lose their independence, their dignity and status, their confidence and morale, and their roles both within the family and beyond. This PhD builds on our pioneering work in the PRIDE (Promoting Independence in Dementia) study (funded by the ESRC & NIHR) and explores how the PRIDE app, which promotes lifestyle changes and self-management, may support independence for people with early dementia and also benefit their families, and the NHS and social care. The PhD will help to develop and implement a clinical trial using the PRIDE app for people with mild dementia living in community settings.

The PhD will be hosted by the Division of Psychiatry and Applied Psychology, in the School of Medicine, University of Nottingham and the Centre for Dementia at the Institute of Mental Health. The student will learn about many aspects of dementia care research including outcome measures and complex interventions, and will become a member of the Europe wide INTERDEM Academy.

This funded PhD will commence in Autumn 2019. A yearly stipend at current UKR&I rates (£15,009), plus UK/EU student tuition fees (£4,327), is available to the successful applicant.
