Lisa passed her PhD viva which was funded by CLAHRC East Midlands and the Alzheimer’s Society.
Lisa’s PhD was on independence for people living with dementia. The PhD aimed to develop an Occupational Therapy Personal Activity Programme for people with dementia to maintain and regain independence in activities of daily living during hospital admissions.

Lisa has worked clinically as an Occupational therapist and as a lecturer in Occupational therapy during her PhD and is now working on publishing her PhD research outcomes.
Speaking about her achievements, Lisa said: “It was fantastic to have had an opportunity to meet so many talented researchers, academics and clinicians while working on the topic that I am truly passionate about. Working with a Patient and Public Involvement collaborator throughout the process has been especially valuable and has taught me a lot. I am eager to continue research which could make a positive impact on care of older people.”
Meanwhile, Lizelle’s PhD was jointly funded by CLAHRC East Midlands and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust Raising Health Charitable Funds Award.
Lizelle’s PhD explored the factors associated with the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnoea in patients with chronic heart failure.

Lizelle is now working as a Clinical Academic Careers Pathway Lead at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust and aspires to follow a clinical academic career.
Lizelle said: “Undertaking my PhD at the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences, University of Leicester, has definitely been the highlight of my career. I am extremely grateful for all the support from my supervisors Professor Iain Squire and Professor Noelle Robertson, clinical colleagues from both the local Sleep Disorders Service and heart failure teams, and academic collaborators.
“I've been able to learn and grow clinically, academically and professionally through access to a wide range of opportunities and are very grateful for the funding from CLAHRC East Midlands and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust Raising Health Charitable Funds that made my dream of undertaking a PhD, a reality.”
