Dr Ashkon Ardavani has been awarded his PhD at the University of Leicester after successfully passing his viva, with funding from the ARC East Midlands.

His research explored the impact of pharmacist interventions in chronic kidney disease (CKD), providing valuable insights into how pharmacists can improve patient outcomes.

Dr Ardavani, who is also a pharmacist, published a major systematic review and meta-analysis in Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation, which found that pharmacist interventions led to significant improvements in systolic blood pressure and hemoglobin levels for CKD patients.

The study also highlighted improvements in patient satisfaction and knowledge, though results for other clinical and economic outcomes were mixed.

These findings underscore the important, yet often underused, role of pharmacists in CKD management and point to the need for further robust research in this area.

In addition, Dr Ardavani’s research was presented at national conferences, further raising awareness of the potential benefits of pharmacist involvement in CKD care.

Reflecting on his achievements, Dr Ardavani said: “I am very pleased to have passed my viva for my PhD, and I would like to thank all those who supported me throughout the PhD. I look forward to the next step of my professional career.”

Congratulations to Dr Ardavani on this significant achievement!
