Dr Sam Malins is part of the Clinical Psychology Cancer Service who won the Quality Improvement Award at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s annual awards.

The Outstanding Service Contribution and Recognition Scheme (OSCARS) awards ceremony was due to take place in March 2020 but due to COVID-19 was rearranged and took place on December 10.

Dr Malins has been researching and developing the use of the smart-messaging service Florence in psychological therapies over a number of years. His team won the award in part due to work implementing the use of Florence to reduce dropout from group psychological therapies.

The Honorary Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology said: “We were all very pleased and proud, particularly as the other nominees were so strong.”

The trust said: “Although we’d have preferred for it to be our usual celebration evening, it was fantastic to come together and celebrate some of the incredible achievements of our staff and volunteers in 2019. Well done to everyone who was nominated and congratulations to all the winners.”

Dr Malins is one of the ARC East Midlands clinical academic postdoctoral fellows and is linked to the Mental Health and Wellbeing theme.
