These guidelines provide a practical, evidence-based roadmap for healthcare leaders, managers and wellbeing teams to successfully implement and sustain staff wellbeing initiatives.

The focus is on embedding discrete, short-duration activities into daily clinical practice, moving beyond one-off pilots toward a sustainable wellbeing interventions.

Core components:

  • Robust evidence base: Underpinned by Normalisation Process Theory (NPT) and informed by a global scoping review of 15 studies and qualitative research across two NHS Trusts.
  • Six strategic guidelines: Covers contextual alignment, resource scoping (staff, time, expertise, finance), staff engagement, delivery modes, impact evaluation, and long-term future-proofing.
  • Practical tools: Includes a "Rest and Reflect" worked case study and a diagnostic implementation checklist for teams.
