NIHR CLAHRC EM supports Diabetes Prevention Week

A national campaign to prevent and raise awareness of type 2 diabetes is taking place this week.

The inaugural Diabetes Prevention Week runs from April 16 to 22 and was launched to promote the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme (NDPP), organised by NHS England and Public Health England.

At CLAHRC East Midlands, managing and preventing chronic diseases are two of our work themes, with type 2 diabetes at the heart of a number of our studies.

Working with our partners at the Centre for BME Health, we have been translating the Leicester Diabetes Risk Score into difference languages to help members of the South Asian community assess their risk of developing the condition.

We have also been evaluating the process, performance and effectiveness of integrating diabetes services through our Transformation Study, while the Hypoglycaemia Study has introduced an innovative hypoglycaemia pathway for admission avoidance at a regional ambulance trust.

Meanwhile, our researchers have been working on a collaborative school-based programme to decrease sedentary time in primary school student as part of the CLASS PAL Study.
