ARC PhD student gets top new job

Many congratulations to one of our clinical academic PhD students Chris Newton who is about to take the latest step in his career.

Chris currently works as a Physiotherapist at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, but will start as a Consultant Physiotherapist at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwick Hospitals NHS Trust in February 2021.

Chris has been studying his PhD titled Cognitive functional therapy for persistent low back pain at the University of Nottingham. The randomised controlled trial has been comparing cognitive functional therapy (CFT) with usual physiotherapy care for 60 people with persistent low back pain in an NHS secondary care physiotherapy service.

The aim is to determine the feasibility of completing a future definitive, randomised controlled trial that will evaluate the clinical and cost-effectiveness of CFT in comparison to usual physiotherapy care for people with persistent lower back pain attending an NHS physiotherapy service.
