The NIHR has established a £1.95 million collaboration programme focused on researching and improving care for people living with multiple long-term conditions (MLTC). This is an area of strategic focus for the NIHR, as it is estimated that 14 million people in England alone are affected by MLTC.
The collaboration is led by Professor Kamlesh Khunti, Director of the NIHR ARC East Midlands, and Professor Avan Aihie Sayer, Director of the NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre. It brings together the NIHR's translational, applied, and policy research infrastructure to address key MLTC research questions.
The collaboration has three main workstreams:
- Interventions and prevention
- Methodologies
- Models of care
The programme aims to leverage funding, attract partners, and build research capability in MLTC.
